Launched in 2015, ZIIEI is one of the first and largest-ever initiatives of India that will annually facilitate wide-scale, systematic implementation of grass root innovations in Education, that can improve existing systems and processes at zero or minimal cost. It is part of Sri Aurobindo Society’s larger country-wide education transformation program, called Rupantar.
ZIIEI program has expanded its reach from one state to 22 states and also introduced the concept of ‘Innovative Pathshaala’, an extension of nation-wide mass teacher outreach initiative Zero Investment Innovations for Education Initiatives (ZIIEI)
Over 13 lakh teachers oriented for innovation in education responded, of these over 7 lakh government teachers submitted their zero investment ideas. The ZIIEI Navachar Pustika comprising these case studies was provided to 5 lakh schools through distribution drives and face-to-face training. As a result, 1,50,126 teachers implementing zero investment innovations in their schools.
In 2018, Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), Mumbai conducted a third party assessment study of the project and reported that “The programme has created a strong network of energised teachers, principals and administrators; these groups could be further mobilised to create strong leaders within the education department. ZIIEI is unique initiative, which focuses on better utilisation of resources available in Government Schools – the teachers – thus unleashing the immense potential of educators by instilling self-belief and making innovation a core value..”
